Build Expanded Paraphrase

Click within the CBC to insert an expansion. A textbox will appear. Type in (or copy into) the textbox and push ESC to cancel or ENTER to save.

Alternatively, you may edit the CBC/insertions alternation directly at Data/67/expanded-paraphrase.json for a final draft. If you're viewing a paraphrase from the wiki, save it as a draft and then modify.

If there is an extra space between two parts...

, you'll need to modify the json file directly. For example, to enable plots:

	{
		"verse": "1",
		"cbc": "plot",
		"Index": 6,
		"suppressFollowingSpace": true
	},
	{
		"verse": "1",
		"insertion": "s",
		"WordsBefore": 6,
		"Index": 7
	},

If a Google discourse sheet exists...

You may import the Expanded Paraphrase from the sheet by following these instructions.

Prepare the discourse sheet

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Go to the tab named "Public-Text" (which is likely already made). If it doesn't exist, follow these instructions (you'll need it all by the end of this).

Prepare

To enable this, you must:

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Add a new tab named "Public-Text" (the name isn't actually critical)
  3. Use as the formula in the top-left cell: ='Discourse Master Sheet'!A:A (or whatever the appropriate code is to select the first column of the master sheet).
  4. Drag the formula over to Column C and down as far as needed to get all the rows.
  5. File > Share > Publish to Web
  6. Instead of Entire Document, choose sheet Public-Text
  7. Instead of Web Page, choose Tab-separated values.
  8. Copy the link starting from after /d/e until before the &single, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279&single=true&output=tsv
  9. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 19
  10. Add the DiscourseSheet property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279
|Banner Image=Psalm 19 banner image.jpg
  1. In D2, type "Expanded Paraphrase" as the new header. (This, like the one below, will be used by code to ensure this is what is intended.)
  2. In E2, type "Expanded Paraphrase as JSON" as the new header.

Get the spreadsheet ID

  1. Now you'll need to save the Google spreadsheet ID. This will be used to generate the JSON within the Google environment. (The Google sheet URL, which is likely already stored, will be used to extract the JSON into the Resource Site.)
  2. From the URL, copy the link starting from after /d until before the /edit?, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/67Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD67kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0/edit?gid=70267467086#gid=70267467086

Save the spreadsheet ID

(This step can be skipped if you'll only ever manuallly populate this; this goal permits us to bulk populate all discourse spreadsheets.)

  1. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 679
  2. Add the DiscourseSheetID property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheetID=67Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD67kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-67vS309bCf4RkDjHEczGiDnZtOACqV94-DLwI_bYlzt5hugBM25ddPLVwaRETsZ9SyB46-7SpcGm3U8bX/pub?gid=70267467086
}}

Populate the Public-Text sheet

  1. Actually extract the bold & italics from the main sheet into the Public-Text sheet. This involves running an Apps Script. First open this: https://script.google.com/u/0/home/projects/677TAMP67KpcaMTXBf5qS0C-mflnt-67srgJTWns6bLRD_l6eNSj9zy4Bxzc/edit.
  2. Now add your discourse sheet id to the end of the list of spreadsheetIDs at the top, remembering to enclose it in double quotation marks and ensuring everything is comma-delimited.
  3. At the top of the page, ensure "extractBoldFromMultipleSpreadsheets" is in the menu bar.
  4. Click Run.
  5. If the Execution Log at the bottom of the page doesn't show "Execution started" and then "Execution completed" then ask Elizabeth for help...

Extract the Public-Text sheet to the Resource Site

Follow the above instructions and refresh the page. The Discourse Sheet properties have not yet been set.

Use the Save current draft button at the bottom of the page to save.

Text (Hebrew) Verse Expanded Paraphrase
1 For the director. With stringed instruments. A psalm, a song. We are gathered together at the designated place of worship with our firstfruits, worshiping YHWH, as he commanded in Leviticus 23:9-14.
2 Knowing that humans are dependent on divine intervention for a whole range of blessings, including but not limited to fertility, health, prosperity, and victory, and knowing that God has the capacity to bless people, and knowing that God has blessed us as the nation of Israel in the past, in the spirit of the priestly blessing given to Aaron in Numbers 6. May God that is, YHWH, our covenant-keeping God be gracious to us and bless us. May he shine his face toward us as someone in authority over us, giving us his continued presence and favour-- Selah
3 -- in order to understand your way your patterns of behavior on earth since the nations around Israel do not yet know God and people can learn more about God, your salvation success, deliverance, victory, and protection among all nations as they see how you behave with us.
4 Having recognised your blessing to Israel and since people praise others when they are impressed with and/or thankful for them, Let the peoples praise you, God. But not just some of them; we want the whole world to know you and give you praise. Let the peoples praise you, all of them.
5 Let the nations shout joyfully because they see and/or experience for themselves that just as you, our king, judge us fairly and lead us, so you as the king with dominion over the whole world judge the peoples fairly, and the nations you guide on the earth. Selah.
6 When the nations submit willingly to you and experience your blessing on them as well as on Israel, they will be doubly inclined to praise you Let the peoples praise you, God. Let the peoples praise you, all of them.
7 The earth has yielded its produce. We are standing here with our firstfruits, which provide evidence of God's answer to our prayer for blessing, since he gave the fertility and rain needed for crops. The firstfruits are a picture of more to come. Now, in order for this cycle to continue so more people can get to know God, May God, our God, bless us.
8 May God bless us so that more and more nations covering more and more of the earth will come to know him, until finally all the ends of the earth will know him and, having come to know who he is will fear revere him.
