Build Expanded Paraphrase

Click within the CBC to insert an expansion. A textbox will appear. Type in (or copy into) the textbox and push ESC to cancel or ENTER to save.

Alternatively, you may edit the CBC/insertions alternation directly at Data/133/expanded-paraphrase.json for a final draft. If you're viewing a paraphrase from the wiki, save it as a draft and then modify.

If there is an extra space between two parts...

, you'll need to modify the json file directly. For example, to enable plots:

	{
		"verse": "1",
		"cbc": "plot",
		"Index": 6,
		"suppressFollowingSpace": true
	},
	{
		"verse": "1",
		"insertion": "s",
		"WordsBefore": 6,
		"Index": 7
	},

If a Google discourse sheet exists...

You may import the Expanded Paraphrase from the sheet by following these instructions.

Prepare the discourse sheet

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Go to the tab named "Public-Text" (which is likely already made). If it doesn't exist, follow these instructions (you'll need it all by the end of this).

Prepare

To enable this, you must:

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Add a new tab named "Public-Text" (the name isn't actually critical)
  3. Use as the formula in the top-left cell: ='Discourse Master Sheet'!A:A (or whatever the appropriate code is to select the first column of the master sheet).
  4. Drag the formula over to Column C and down as far as needed to get all the rows.
  5. File > Share > Publish to Web
  6. Instead of Entire Document, choose sheet Public-Text
  7. Instead of Web Page, choose Tab-separated values.
  8. Copy the link starting from after /d/e until before the &single, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279&single=true&output=tsv
  9. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 19
  10. Add the DiscourseSheet property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279
|Banner Image=Psalm 19 banner image.jpg
  1. In D2, type "Expanded Paraphrase" as the new header. (This, like the one below, will be used by code to ensure this is what is intended.)
  2. In E2, type "Expanded Paraphrase as JSON" as the new header.

Get the spreadsheet ID

  1. Now you'll need to save the Google spreadsheet ID. This will be used to generate the JSON within the Google environment. (The Google sheet URL, which is likely already stored, will be used to extract the JSON into the Resource Site.)
  2. From the URL, copy the link starting from after /d until before the /edit?, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/133Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD133kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0/edit?gid=7021334133086#gid=7021334133086

Save the spreadsheet ID

(This step can be skipped if you'll only ever manuallly populate this; this goal permits us to bulk populate all discourse spreadsheets.)

  1. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 1339
  2. Add the DiscourseSheetID property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheetID=133Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD133kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-133vS309bCf4RkDjHEczGiDnZtOACqV94-DLwI_bYlzt5hugBM25ddPLVwaRETsZ9SyB46-7SpcGm3U8bX/pub?gid=7021334133086
}}

Populate the Public-Text sheet

  1. Actually extract the bold & italics from the main sheet into the Public-Text sheet. This involves running an Apps Script. First open this: https://script.google.com/u/0/home/projects/1337TAMP133KpcaMTXBf5qS0C-mflnt-133srgJTWns6bLRD_l6eNSj9zy4Bxzc/edit.
  2. Now add your discourse sheet id to the end of the list of spreadsheetIDs at the top, remembering to enclose it in double quotation marks and ensuring everything is comma-delimited.
  3. At the top of the page, ensure "extractBoldFromMultipleSpreadsheets" is in the menu bar.
  4. Click Run.
  5. If the Execution Log at the bottom of the page doesn't show "Execution started" and then "Execution completed" then ask Elizabeth for help...

Extract the Public-Text sheet to the Resource Site

Text (Hebrew) Verse Expanded Paraphrase
1 [Belonging to] the song of the Israelites' ascents up to Jerusalem, where the temple was, for holy festivals. This psalm was written By David. Look, how good and how right that brothers (the twelve brothers of Israel, from whom the twelve tribes descended, so representing all the families of Israel) dwell in the land—but even dwell together, they travel from all over the country (north and south) for the sake of worshiping YHWH in Jerusalem!
2 Brothers dwelling together is a blessing that flows from YHWH.[It is] like the valuable anointing oil on the head which is a picture of YHWH's election and blessing of priests. When it is flowing down onto the beard, the beard of Aaron, it is a reminder of the consecration of the first high priest of Israel, which initiated the covenant, the source and guarantee of YHWH's acceptance of Israel into relationship with God. The anointing of the priesthood is a blessing from God to the people because it provides them with someone who seeks God's forgiveness (Exod 32:11-14; Lev 16:15-16) and blessings on their behalf (Num 6:24-26). The oil which flows down abundantly over Aaron's beard and onto the collar of his priestly garments, covering everything, is an image of the abundant blessings flowing from God to his people.
3 Likewise, when brothers gather in Jerusalem to dwell together and with YHWH, there in Jerusalem blessings come down from heaven:[it is] like the life-giving dew of Mount Hermon, the highest mountain in Israel. This dew, which flows down abundantly from the north onto the hills of Zion in the south, waters the lands all around Jerusalem, enabling crops to grow and blessing the entire nation. This gift of water for the lands symbolizes all of YHWH's blessings on the land and the absence of covenant curses, enabling life to flourish. For it is there, in Jerusalem, that YHWH chose to make his dwelling place (Ps 132:13-14) and to live among his people; it is there that YHWH has sent the blessing—life everlasting, that is, ongoing life in the land in covenant unity with each other and with YHWH, mediated by the priesthood. Jerusalem is where it all originated and where we come to celebrate it.
