v. 5 – Although the lexeme יַבֶּ֫שֶׁת only occurs here and Exod 4:9 in the Bible, it is unambiguously derived from the common root √יבשׁ, "be dry." The more typical form for "dry land" is יַבָּשָׁה, though the context both here and in Exod 4:9 show יַבֶּ֫שֶׁת simply to be a by-form with the same sense.
