Psalm 6/Notes/Lexical.v. 7.811257
From Psalms: Layer by Layer
- This section of the psalm (vv. 7–8) uses several rare words, probably chosen for the sake of their sound.
- The verb drench (אַשְׂחֶה v. 7b) occurs only three times in the Hebrew Bible and only here in the hiphil stem.[1] Because in the qal stem it means “to swim,”[2] in the hiphil stem, it probably means “to cause to swim,”[3] which is probably a hyperbolic way of saying “to flood/drench.”[4]
