לְ דָוִ֨ד	1a	By David
אַל תִּתְחַ֥ר בַּ מְּרֵעִ֑ים	1b	Do not get upset about those who act wickedly
אַל תְּ֝קַנֵּ֗א בְּ עֹשֵׂ֥י עַוְלָֽה	1c	Do not be jealous of those who do wrong
כִּ֣י כֶ֭ חָצִיר מְהֵרָ֣ה יִמָּ֑לוּ	2a	For they will soon wither like grass
וּ כְ יֶ֥רֶק דֶּ֝֗שֶׁא יִבּוֹלֽוּ ן	2b	and they will fade like green leaves on plants
בְּטַ֣ח בַּֽ֭ יהוָה וַ עֲשֵׂה ט֑וֹב	3a	Trust in YHWH and do good
שְׁכָן אֶ֝֗רֶץ וּ רְעֵ֥ה אֱמוּנָֽה	3b	Reside in the land and graze securely
וְ הִתְעַנַּ֥ג עַל יְהוָ֑ה	4a	And then you will delight yourself in YHWH
וְ יִֽתֶּן לְ֝ ךָ֗ מִשְׁאֲלֹ֥ת לִבֶּֽ ךָ	4b	and he will give you your heart s desires
גּ֣וֹל עַל יְהוָ֣ה דַּרְכֶּ֑ ךָ	5a	Commit your way to YHWH
וּ בְטַ֥ח עָ֝לָ֗י ו וְ ה֣וּא יַעֲשֶֽׂה	5b	and trust in him and he will act
וְ הוֹצִ֣יא כָ א֣וֹר צִדְקֶ֑ ךָ	6a	and he will make your righteousness known like the light
וּ֝ מִשְׁפָּטֶ֗ ךָ כַּֽ צָּהֳרָֽיִם	6b	and [ he will make ] your justice [ known ] like midday
דּ֤וֹם לַ יהוָה֮ וְ הִתְח֪וֹלֵ֫ל ל֥ וֹ	7a	Be silent before YHWH and wait for him
אַל תִּ֭תְחַר בְּ מַצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכּ֑ וֹ	7b	Do not get upset about someone who makes his way successful
בְּ֝ אִ֗ישׁ עֹשֶׂ֥ה מְזִמּֽוֹת	7c	at a person carrying out schemes
הֶ֣רֶף מֵ֭ אַף וַ עֲזֹ֣ב חֵמָ֑ה	8a	Let go of anger and leave wrath behind
אַל תִּ֝תְחַ֗ר אַךְ לְ הָרֵֽעַ	8b	Do not get upset only to act wickedly
כִּֽי מְ֭רֵעִים יִכָּרֵת֑וּ ן	9a	For those who act wickedly will be destroyed
וְ קֹוֵ֥י יְ֝הוָ֗ה הֵ֣מָּה יִֽירְשׁוּ אָֽרֶץ	9b	but those who hope in YHWH — they will possess the land
וְ ע֣וֹד מְ֭עַט וְ אֵ֣ין רָשָׁ֑ע	1d	And just a little bit longer and the wicked person will be gone
וְ הִתְבּוֹנַ֖נְתָּ עַל מְקוֹמ֣ וֹ וְ אֵינֶֽ נּוּ	1e	And you will look closely at the place where he was and he will not be there
וַ עֲנָוִ֥ים יִֽירְשׁוּ־ אָ֑רֶץ וְ֝ הִתְעַנְּג֗וּ עַל־ רֹ֥ב שָׁלֽוֹם׃	1f	But the humble will possess the land and delight themselves in great prosperity.
זֹמֵ֣ם רָ֭שָׁע לַ צַּדִּ֑יק וְ חֹרֵ֖ק עָלָ֣י ו שִׁנָּֽי ו׃	1g	The wicked person is plotting against the righteous person and grinding his teeth at him.
אֲדֹנָ֥ י יִשְׂחַק־ ל֑ וֹ כִּֽי־ רָ֝אָ֗ה כִּֽי־ יָבֹ֥א יוֹמֽ וֹ׃	1h	The Lord laughs at him, because he sees that his time will come.
חֶ֤רֶב ׀ פָּֽתְח֣וּ רְשָׁעִים֮ וְ דָרְכ֪וּ קַ֫שְׁתָּ֥ ם לְ֭ הַפִּיל עָנִ֣י וְ אֶבְי֑וֹן לִ֝ טְב֗וֹחַ יִשְׁרֵי־ דָֽרֶךְ׃	1i	The wicked have drawn swords and strung their bows in order to bring down the one who is afflicted and poor, in order to slaughter those whose conduct is upright.
חַ֭רְבָּ ם תָּב֣וֹא בְ לִבָּ֑ ם וְ֝ קַשְּׁתוֹתָ֗ ם תִּשָּׁבַֽרְנָה׃	1j	Their swords will go into their hearts, and their bows will be broken.
טוֹב־ מְ֭עַט לַ צַּדִּ֑יק מֵ֝ הֲמ֗וֹן רְשָׁעִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃	1k	A little belonging to the righteous person is better than the abundance of many wicked people.
כִּ֤י זְרוֹע֣וֹת רְ֭שָׁעִים תִּשָּׁבַ֑רְנָה וְ סוֹמֵ֖ךְ צַדִּיקִ֣ים יְהוָֽה׃	1l	For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but YHWH is upholding the righteous.
יוֹדֵ֣עַ יְ֭הוָה יְמֵ֣י תְמִימִ֑ם וְ֝ נַחֲלָתָ֗ ם לְ עוֹלָ֥ם תִּהְיֶֽה׃	1m	YHWH knows the days of the blameless, and their inheritance will be forever.
לֹֽא־ יֵ֭בֹשׁוּ בְּ עֵ֣ת רָעָ֑ה וּ בִ ימֵ֖י רְעָב֣וֹן יִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃	1n	They will not come to shame during hard times, and they will eat their fill during times of famine.
כִּ֤י רְשָׁעִ֨ים ׀ יֹאבֵ֗דוּ וְ אֹיְבֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה כִּ יקַ֣ר כָּרִ֑ים כָּל֖וּ בֶ עָשָׁ֣ן כָּֽלוּ׃	2c	For the wicked will perish, and YHWH' s enemies [ will perish ] like flowers in a pasture. They are finished like smoke! They are finished!
לֹוֶ֣ה רָ֭שָׁע וְ לֹ֣א יְשַׁלֵּ֑ם וְ֝ צַדִּ֗יק חוֹנֵ֥ן וְ נוֹתֵֽן׃	2d	The wicked person is borrowing and will not repay, but the righteous person is giving generously.
כִּ֣י מְ֭בֹרָכָי ו יִ֣ירְשׁוּ אָ֑רֶץ וּ֝ מְקֻלָּלָ֗י ו יִכָּרֵֽתוּ׃	2e	For those blessed by him will possess the land, and those cursed by him will be destroyed.
מֵ֭ יְהוָה מִֽצְעֲדֵי־ גֶ֥בֶר כּוֹנָ֗נוּ וְ דַרְכּ֥ וֹ יֶחְפָּֽץ׃	2f	When a person' s steps are made steadfast by YHWH, then he will be pleased with his way.
כִּֽי־ יִפֹּ֥ל לֹֽא־ יוּטָ֑ל כִּֽי־ יְ֝הוָ֗ה סוֹמֵ֥ךְ יָדֽ וֹ׃	2g	When he falls, he will not fall flat. because YHWH is supporting his hand.
נַ֤עַר ׀ הָיִ֗יתִי גַּם־ זָ֫קַ֥נְתִּי וְֽ לֹא־ רָ֭אִיתִי צַדִּ֣יק נֶעֱזָ֑ב וְ֝ זַרְע֗ וֹ מְבַקֶּשׁ־ לָֽחֶם׃	2h	I was once a young man; and now I am old, and I have not seen a righteous person abandoned or his children looking for food.
כָּל־ הַ֭ יּוֹם חוֹנֵ֣ן וּ מַלְוֶ֑ה וְ֝ זַרְע֗ וֹ לִ בְרָכָֽה׃	2i	He is always lending generously, and his children will become a blessing.
ס֣וּר מֵ֭ רָע וַ עֲשֵׂה־ ט֗וֹב וּ שְׁכֹ֥ן לְ עוֹלָֽם׃	2j	Turn away from evil and do good, and you will reside forever!
כִּ֤י יְהוָ֨ה ׀ אֹ֘הֵ֤ב מִשְׁפָּ֗ט וְ לֹא־ יַעֲזֹ֣ב אֶת־ חֲ֭סִידָי ו עַוָלִים נִשְׁמָדו וְ זֶ֖רַע רְשָׁעִ֣ים נִכְרָֽת׃	2k	For Wrong - YHWH loves doers are justice, exterminated, and and he the will children not of abandon the those wicked who are are destroyed! loyal to him.
צַדִּיקִ֥ים יִֽירְשׁוּ־ אָ֑רֶץ וְ יִשְׁכְּנ֖וּ לָ עַ֣ד עָלֶֽי הָ׃	2l	The righteous will possess the land and reside on it forever.
פִּֽי־ צַ֭דִּיק יֶהְגֶּ֣ה חָכְמָ֑ה וּ֝ לְשׁוֹנ֗ וֹ תְּדַבֵּ֥ר מִשְׁפָּֽט׃	3c	A righteous person' s mouth utters what is wise, and his tongue speaks what is just.
תּוֹרַ֣ת אֱלֹהָ֣י ו בְּ לִבּ֑ וֹ לֹ֖א תִמְעַ֣ד אֲשֻׁרָי ו׃	3d	The instruction of his God is in his heart. His steps will not slip.
צוֹפֶ֣ה רָ֭שָׁע לַ צַּדִּ֑יק וּ֝ מְבַקֵּ֗שׁ לַ הֲמִית וֹ׃	3e	The wicked person is watching for the righteous person and trying to kill him.
יְ֭הוָה לֹא־ יַעַזְבֶ֣ נּוּ בְ יָד֑ וֹ וְ לֹ֥א יַ֝רְשִׁיעֶ֗ נּוּ בְּ הִשָּׁפְטֽ וֹ׃	3f	YHWH will not abandon him into his hand, and he will not let him be condemned as guilty when he enters into judgment.
קַוֵּ֤ה אֶל־ יְהוָ֨ה ׀ וּ שְׁמֹ֬ר דַּרְכּ֗ וֹ וִֽ֭ ירוֹמִמְ ךָ לָ רֶ֣שֶׁת אָ֑רֶץ בְּ הִכָּרֵ֖ת רְשָׁעִ֣ים תִּרְאֶֽה׃	3g	Hope in YHWH and keep his way, and he will exalt you to possess the land. You will see when the wicked are destroyed.
רָ֭אִיתִי רָשָׁ֣ע עָרִ֑יץ וּ֝ מִתְעָרֶ֗ה כְּ אֶזְרָ֥ח רַעֲנָֽן׃	3h	I once saw a ruthless wicked person, and he was ascending like a native tree.
וָ אֶעֲבֹר וְ הִנֵּ֣ה אֵינֶ֑ נּוּ וָֽ֝ אֲבַקְשֵׁ֗ הוּ וְ לֹ֣א נִמְצָֽא׃	3i	Then I passed by, and — get this !— he was gone; then I looked for him, and he was not found.
שְׁמָר־ תָּ֭ם וּ רְאֵ֣ה יָשָׁ֑ר כִּֽי־ אַחֲרִ֖ית לְ אִ֣ישׁ שָׁלֽוֹם׃	3j	Pay attention to the blameless one and look at the upright one, because the future of a [ blameless ] person is peace.
וּֽ֭ פֹשְׁעִים נִשְׁמְד֣וּ יַחְדָּ֑ו אַחֲרִ֖ית רְשָׁעִ֣ים נִכְרָֽתָה׃	3k	But those who rebel are completely exterminated! The future of the wicked is destroyed!
וּ תְשׁוּעַ֣ת צַ֭דִּיקִים מֵ יְהוָ֑ה מָֽ֝עוּזָּ֗ ם בְּ עֵ֣ת צָרָֽה׃	3l	But the salvation of the righteous comes from YHWH, their fortress during times of trouble,
וַֽ יַּעְזְרֵ֥ ם יְהוָ֗ה וַֽ יְפַ֫לְּטֵ֥ ם יְפַלְּטֵ֣ ם מֵ֭ רְשָׁעִים וְ יוֹשִׁיעֵ֑ ם כִּי־ חָ֥סוּ בֽ וֹ׃	4c	and YHWH helps them and rescues them. He will rescue them from the wicked and save them, because they have sought refuge in him.
