Psalm 32/Notes/Phrasal.v. 3.675723
From Psalms: Layer by Layer
v. 3 – The prepositional phrase בְּ֝שַׁאֲגָתִ֗י introduces localization, though within a temporal frame (BHRG §39.6(2)), as made explicit by the following phrase "all day" (כָּל־הַיּֽוֹם). Similar periods of time are described in Ps 39:4's "while I meditated" (NIV; בַּהֲגִיגִ֥י) and possibly Ps 31:11's בַּאֲנָ֫חָ֥ה, if not read as manner: [fade away] with groaning.[1]
- ↑ See Jenni 1992, 341. This is also a possible reading of the prepositional phrase in our present verse, though the wasting away seems caused by YHWH's hand (see the following verse) and is accompanied by groaning, not caused by that groaning.
