Psalm 23/Participant Analysis/Tracking
From Psalms: Layer by Layer
| Text (Hebrew) | Verse | Text (CBC) The Close-but-clear translation (CBC) exists to provide a window into the Hebrew text according to how we understand its syntax and word-to-phrase-level semantics. It is designed to be "close" to the Hebrew, while still being "clear." Specifically, the CBC encapsulates and reflects the following layers of analysis: grammar, lexical semantics, phrase-level semantics, and verbal semantics. It does not reflect our analysis of the discourse or of poetics. It is not intended to be used as a stand-alone translation or base text, but as a supplement to Layer-by-Layer materials to help users make full use of these resources. |

מִזְמ֥וֹר לְדָוִ֑ד
1a | A psalm by David.
יְהוָ֥ה רֹ֝עִ֗י
1b | YHWH is my shepherd;
לֹ֣א אֶחְסָֽר׃
1c | I will never lack [anything].
בִּנְא֣וֹת דֶּ֭שֶׁא יַרְבִּיצֵ֑נִי
2a | He makes me lie down in green pastures.
עַל־מֵ֖י מְנֻח֣וֹת יְנַהֲלֵֽנִי׃
2b | He leads me to water where I can rest.
נַפְשִׁ֥י יְשׁוֹבֵ֑ב
3a | He restores my life.
יַֽנְחֵ֥נִי בְמַעְגְּלֵי־צֶ֝֗דֶק לְמַ֣עַן שְׁמֽוֹ׃
3b | He leads me in paths of righteousness for the sake of his name.
גַּ֤ם כִּֽי־אֵלֵ֨ךְ בְּגֵ֪יא צַלְמָ֡וֶת
4a | Even when I walk in a valley of darkness,
לֹא־אִ֘ירָ֤א רָ֗ע
4b | I will not fear harm,
כִּי־אַתָּ֥ה עִמָּדִ֑י
4c | because you are with me.
שִׁבְטְךָ֥ וּ֝מִשְׁעַנְתֶּ֗ךָ הֵ֣מָּה יְנַֽחֲמֻֽנִי׃
4d | Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
תַּעֲרֹ֬ךְ לְפָנַ֨י ׀ שֻׁלְחָ֗ן נֶ֥גֶד צֹרְרָ֑י
5a | You arrange a table before me in the presence of my adversaries.
דִּשַּׁ֖נְתָּ בַשֶּׁ֥מֶן רֹ֝אשִׁ֗י
5b | You have anointed my head with oil.
כּוֹסִ֥י רְוָיָֽה׃
5c | My cup is overflowing.
אַ֤ךְ ׀ ט֤וֹב וָחֶ֣סֶד יִ֭רְדְּפוּנִי כָּל־יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֑י
6a | Surely goodness and loyalty will pursue me all the days of my life,
וְשִׁבְתִּי* בְּבֵית־יְ֝הוָ֗ה לְאֹ֣רֶךְ יָמִֽים׃*
6b | and I will dwell in YHWH’s house for as long as I live.
