The verb "stand" (יִתְיַצְּבוּ) can mean to "take one’s stand (firmly)" (HALOT) and, by metaphorical extension, "to resist" (HALOT; see e.g., Deut 7:2; Josh 1:5; Job 41:2; 1 Chron 20:6).
