Build Expanded Paraphrase

Click within the CBC to insert an expansion. A textbox will appear. Type in (or copy into) the textbox and push ESC to cancel or ENTER to save.

Alternatively, you may edit the CBC/insertions alternation directly at Data/15/expanded-paraphrase.json for a final draft. If you're viewing a paraphrase from the wiki, save it as a draft and then modify.

If there is an extra space between two parts...

, you'll need to modify the json file directly. For example, to enable plots:

	{
		"verse": "1",
		"cbc": "plot",
		"Index": 6,
		"suppressFollowingSpace": true
	},
	{
		"verse": "1",
		"insertion": "s",
		"WordsBefore": 6,
		"Index": 7
	},

If a Google discourse sheet exists...

You may import the Expanded Paraphrase from the sheet by following these instructions.

Prepare the discourse sheet

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Go to the tab named "Public-Text" (which is likely already made). If it doesn't exist, follow these instructions (you'll need it all by the end of this).

Prepare

To enable this, you must:

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Add a new tab named "Public-Text" (the name isn't actually critical)
  3. Use as the formula in the top-left cell: ='Discourse Master Sheet'!A:A (or whatever the appropriate code is to select the first column of the master sheet).
  4. Drag the formula over to Column C and down as far as needed to get all the rows.
  5. File > Share > Publish to Web
  6. Instead of Entire Document, choose sheet Public-Text
  7. Instead of Web Page, choose Tab-separated values.
  8. Copy the link starting from after /d/e until before the &single, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279&single=true&output=tsv
  9. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 19
  10. Add the DiscourseSheet property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279
|Banner Image=Psalm 19 banner image.jpg
  1. In D2, type "Expanded Paraphrase" as the new header. (This, like the one below, will be used by code to ensure this is what is intended.)
  2. In E2, type "Expanded Paraphrase as JSON" as the new header.

Get the spreadsheet ID

  1. Now you'll need to save the Google spreadsheet ID. This will be used to generate the JSON within the Google environment. (The Google sheet URL, which is likely already stored, will be used to extract the JSON into the Resource Site.)
  2. From the URL, copy the link starting from after /d until before the /edit?, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD15kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0/edit?gid=70215415086#gid=70215415086

Save the spreadsheet ID

(This step can be skipped if you'll only ever manuallly populate this; this goal permits us to bulk populate all discourse spreadsheets.)

  1. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 159
  2. Add the DiscourseSheetID property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheetID=15Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD15kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-15vS309bCf4RkDjHEczGiDnZtOACqV94-DLwI_bYlzt5hugBM25ddPLVwaRETsZ9SyB46-7SpcGm3U8bX/pub?gid=70215415086
}}

Populate the Public-Text sheet

  1. Actually extract the bold & italics from the main sheet into the Public-Text sheet. This involves running an Apps Script. First open this: https://script.google.com/u/0/home/projects/157TAMP15KpcaMTXBf5qS0C-mflnt-15srgJTWns6bLRD_l6eNSj9zy4Bxzc/edit.
  2. Now add your discourse sheet id to the end of the list of spreadsheetIDs at the top, remembering to enclose it in double quotation marks and ensuring everything is comma-delimited.
  3. At the top of the page, ensure "extractBoldFromMultipleSpreadsheets" is in the menu bar.
  4. Click Run.
  5. If the Execution Log at the bottom of the page doesn't show "Execution started" and then "Execution completed" then ask Elizabeth for help...

Extract the Public-Text sheet to the Resource Site

Follow the above instructions and refresh the page. The Discourse Sheet properties have not yet been set.

Use the Save current draft button at the bottom of the page to save.

Text (Hebrew) Verse Expanded Paraphrase
1 A psalm of David. YHWH, who is the kind of person who may dwell in your dwelling place and experience the benefits of your favour and protection? Who may stay on your holy mountain, Mt. Zion, the place where you have chosen to be present with your people, but that is set apart from everything common or profane? Is it the person who meets cultic requirements, holds the correct religious doctrine, is physically impressive, or demonstrates military power or royal lineage?
2 No, such are not the full requirements that God requires. The eligible one is the one who keeps YHWH's covenant instructions. In summary, he embraces right behavior: the one who walks throughout life with integrity, and the one who does what is right, and the one who speaks truth sincerely thereby keeping the instruction that says "You shall not deceive, and you shall not lie to one another" (Lev 19:11).
3 Such a person can be recognized in his interactions with his neighbor. He will have successfully resisted temptation, rejecting wrong behavior He has not slandered, showing integrity. He has not done wrong to his neighbor only doing what is right, and has not uttered a taunt against his relative only speaking the truth sincerely.
4 Such a person will adhere to covenant instructions even when disadvantageous or painful, such that The rejected one is despised in his opinion regardless of any social cost for opposing the one YHWH has rejected: he maintains his integrity, and he honours those who fear YHWH, regardless of any social cost of aligning with the godly but unpopular: he does what is right. Having sworn so as to harm (himself), because he is willing to sacrifice on behalf of others he will not change: he speaks the truth sincerely, no matter how large the sacrifice.
5 Financial matters are often where character is revealed, whether one will sacrifice self-interest for what is right. One stereotype of such a person is one who is wealthy enough to help the poor, and who chooses not to increase his wealth at the expense of the poor. He has not given his money with interest thereby keeping the instruction that prohibits charging interest to a fellow Israelite and profiting from their need [Exod 22:25; Lev 25:36–37; Deut 23:20] , but rather treats the poor and vulnerable with compassion, absorbing the cost of lending money himself. Another stereotype is a person in a position of power who does not abuse his power for financial gain, and has not taken a bribe against an innocent person thereby keeping the instruction that prohibits the taking of bribes [Exod 23:8; Deut 16:19] and imitating YHWH [Deut 10:17] (and has rather resisted the temptation both to pervert justice and to gain materially at the expense of someone who has done nothing wrong). The one who does these things who keeps YHWH's covenant, will dwell in the dwelling place of YHWH, living with others under his protection and blessing and he will remain there permanently: he will never be shaken and thus God's promises to his people, and David in particular, will be fulfilled.
