Build Expanded Paraphrase

Click within the CBC to insert an expansion. A textbox will appear. Type in (or copy into) the textbox and push ESC to cancel or ENTER to save.

Alternatively, you may edit the CBC/insertions alternation directly at Data/14/expanded-paraphrase.json for a final draft. If you're viewing a paraphrase from the wiki, save it as a draft and then modify.

If there is an extra space between two parts...

, you'll need to modify the json file directly. For example, to enable plots:

	{
		"verse": "1",
		"cbc": "plot",
		"Index": 6,
		"suppressFollowingSpace": true
	},
	{
		"verse": "1",
		"insertion": "s",
		"WordsBefore": 6,
		"Index": 7
	},

If a Google discourse sheet exists...

You may import the Expanded Paraphrase from the sheet by following these instructions.

Prepare the discourse sheet

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Go to the tab named "Public-Text" (which is likely already made). If it doesn't exist, follow these instructions (you'll need it all by the end of this).

Prepare

To enable this, you must:

  1. Open the Discourse Google sheet for this Psalm.
  2. Add a new tab named "Public-Text" (the name isn't actually critical)
  3. Use as the formula in the top-left cell: ='Discourse Master Sheet'!A:A (or whatever the appropriate code is to select the first column of the master sheet).
  4. Drag the formula over to Column C and down as far as needed to get all the rows.
  5. File > Share > Publish to Web
  6. Instead of Entire Document, choose sheet Public-Text
  7. Instead of Web Page, choose Tab-separated values.
  8. Copy the link starting from after /d/e until before the &single, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279&single=true&output=tsv
  9. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 19
  10. Add the DiscourseSheet property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-1vTeE2dD9gc2v4rckm23VfBCDdpuLirI3DOxLQE10a2UHWl3puz8wPPCJ2wgBftP4VYqadCPb2pWOUwi/pub?gid=168152279
|Banner Image=Psalm 19 banner image.jpg
  1. In D2, type "Expanded Paraphrase" as the new header. (This, like the one below, will be used by code to ensure this is what is intended.)
  2. In E2, type "Expanded Paraphrase as JSON" as the new header.

Get the spreadsheet ID

  1. Now you'll need to save the Google spreadsheet ID. This will be used to generate the JSON within the Google environment. (The Google sheet URL, which is likely already stored, will be used to extract the JSON into the Resource Site.)
  2. From the URL, copy the link starting from after /d until before the /edit?, e.g. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD14kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0/edit?gid=70214414086#gid=70214414086

Save the spreadsheet ID

(This step can be skipped if you'll only ever manuallly populate this; this goal permits us to bulk populate all discourse spreadsheets.)

  1. Edit the base Psalm page, e.g. Psalm 149
  2. Add the DiscourseSheetID property like this:
{{ResourceSite
|DiscourseSheetID=14Ni8QMdjRtxVFj_eAcSD14kgnWmoNTLMZy0zvykIT8ku0
|DiscourseSheet=2PACX-14vS309bCf4RkDjHEczGiDnZtOACqV94-DLwI_bYlzt5hugBM25ddPLVwaRETsZ9SyB46-7SpcGm3U8bX/pub?gid=70214414086
}}

Populate the Public-Text sheet

  1. Actually extract the bold & italics from the main sheet into the Public-Text sheet. This involves running an Apps Script. First open this: https://script.google.com/u/0/home/projects/147TAMP14KpcaMTXBf5qS0C-mflnt-14srgJTWns6bLRD_l6eNSj9zy4Bxzc/edit.
  2. Now add your discourse sheet id to the end of the list of spreadsheetIDs at the top, remembering to enclose it in double quotation marks and ensuring everything is comma-delimited.
  3. At the top of the page, ensure "extractBoldFromMultipleSpreadsheets" is in the menu bar.
  4. Click Run.
  5. If the Execution Log at the bottom of the page doesn't show "Execution started" and then "Execution completed" then ask Elizabeth for help...

Extract the Public-Text sheet to the Resource Site

Follow the above instructions and refresh the page. The Discourse Sheet properties have not yet been set.

Use the Save current draft button at the bottom of the page to save.

Text (Hebrew) Verse Expanded Paraphrase
1 For the director. By David. The fool has said to himself, “There is no God who will know, care, or do anything about the bad things I do, so I can act with impunity because no god will hold me accountable.” That is why They, the fools, have corrupted [their deeds] from the good deeds they should do. They, the fools, have done abominable deeds. There is none among the fools who does good.
2 YHWH looked down from his throne in heaven upon humans (irony alert!) in order to see: "Is there is one who acts wisely, who seeks after God, and has not done abominable deeds?"
3 YHWH sees that All humans not just fools have turned away from the good path of seeking after God. All alike have become corrupt. There is no one who does good. There is not even one who does good. All humans are like the fool.
4 Do they not understand that they are wrong, and they will be held accountable they, meaning all those who do evil thinking they'll get away with it, who eat my people (i.e. abused them for selfish gain) as they have eaten food casually, with no thought to their evil actions, who have not called upon YHWH?
5 Then (if they did understand how wrong they are) they would have feared a fear, because they would have seen that God is with the righteous group and they would recognise that God will hold them accountable for the wrong they've done .
6 Yet, the wicked do not know. Instead, You (wicked) would put to shame the insight of the oppressed which is that YHWH will ultimately care for them, because YHWH is his king and refuge and you think YHWH doesn't care, so you mock those who do think so.
7 In spite of all this, I know that YHWH will be true to his word. Even when I do not see him at work, I trust in his covenant. Therefore, I pray with confidence: Oh, that deliverance for Israel would come from YHWH who dwells in Zion! When YHWH restores the fortune of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad!
