P
:1. Happy is the one who has not walked in the counsel of wicked people,
:has not taken a stand in the way of sinful people,
:and has not settled in the dwelling place of insolent people!
:2. Instead, his delight is in YHWH's instruction,
:and he meditates on his instruction day and night.
:3. And he will become like a tree transplanted beside water channels
:that gives its fruit in its season
:and whose leaves do not wither.
:And he will cause all that he does to flourish.
:4. Not so the wicked people!
:Instead, they will be like chaff that the wind drives away.
:5. Therefore, wicked people will not stand firm in the judgment,
:and sinful people [will not stand] in the group of righteous people.
:6. Because YHWH cares for the way of righteous people,
:and the way of wicked people will come to an end.
+
:1. Praise Yah!
:Happy is the one [who] fears YHWH,
:[who] delights very much in his commands!
:2. His offspring will be great on the earth,
:a generation of upright people [who] will be blessed.
:3. Immense wealth is in his house,
:and his righteousness endures forever.
:4. A light for the upright has risen in the darkness,
:merciful and compassionate and righteous.
:5. Fortunate is the one who lends generously,
:[who] manages his affairs with justice!
:6. For he will never waver.
:The righteous one will be remembered forever.
:7. He will not be afraid of bad news.
:His heart is confident, trusting in YHWH.
:8. His heart is encouraged. He will not be afraid,
:until he looks [in triumph] on his adversaries.
:9. He has given freely to the poor.
:His righteousness endures forever.
:His horn will rise in honor.
:10. The wicked person will see and become vexed.
:He will grind his teeth and waste away.
:The desire of the wicked will come to an end.
+
:1. Praise Yah!
:I will praise YHWH whole-heartedly
:in the council of upright people, in the congregation.

:and his righteousness stands forever.

:8. established forever and ever,
:practiced in faithfulness and uprightness.
:9. He sent redemption to his people.
:He commanded his covenant forever.
:His name is holy and awesome.
:10. Fearing YHWH is the beginning of wisdom;
:all who practice them have good insight.
:His praiseworthiness stands forever.
+
:1. Praise Yah.
:Praise God who is in his sanctuary.
:Praise him who is in his strong firmament.
:2. Praise him for his achievements.
:Praise him according to his great greatness.
:3. Praise him with the blast of a horn.
:Praise him with lyre and lute.
:4. Praise him with drum and dance.
:Praise him with strings and flute.
:5. Praise him with loud cymbals.
:Praise him with resounding cymbals.
:6. Let every living creature praise Yah.
:Praise Yah.
+
:1. Shout for joy in YHWH, righteous people!
:Praise is fitting for upright people.
:2. Give YHWH praise with a lyre!
:Make a song for him with a ten-string harp!
:3. Sing a new song to him!
:Play skillfully with a blast!
:4. Because YHWH's word is upright,
:and all of his work is [done] in faithfulness.
:5. He loves righteousness and justice;
:the earth is full of YHWH's loyal-love.
:6. The heavens were made by YHWH's word,
:and all their hosts [were made] by the breath of his mouth.
:7. He is the one who gathers the sea water as a heap!
:He is the one who places the deep oceans into storehouses!
:8. All the earth should be afraid of YHWH!
:All the dwellers of the inhabited world should be in dread because of him!
:9. For he spoke, and it was;
:he commanded, and it came about.
:10. YHWH has thwarted the nations' plan;
:he has blocked the peoples' intentions.
:11. YHWH's plan stands forever;
:the intentions of his heart [stand] forever and ever.
:12. Happy is the nation whose god is YHWH,
:[happy are] the people [whom YHWH] chose as a permanent possession for himself.
:13. YHWH looked from heaven:
:he saw all of humanity,
:14. he gazed from his dwelling place
:at all the dwellers of the earth,
:15. the one who forms all their hearts,
:the one who discerns all their works.
:16. A king is not saved by a great force;
:a warrior is not delivered by great might.
:17. A horse is a deceptive means for victory,
:and it will not rescue by its great force.
:18. Consider: YHWH's eye is upon those who fear him;
:upon those who wait for his loyal-love,
:19. to deliver their lives from death,
:and to keep them alive during famine.
:20. We ourselves wait longingly for YHWH;
:–he is our help and our shield–
:21. because our hearts rejoice in him;
:because we have come to trust in his holy name.
:22. YHWH, may your loyal-love be upon us,
:just as we have been waiting for you!
+
:1. The Song of Ascents.
:Remember, YHWH, for David’s sake, everything that he endured,
:2. he who swore to YHWH
:[who] vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:
:3. "I will not go into the dwelling place which is my house,
:or go up onto the bed which is my couch,
:4. or give sleep to my eyes
:or slumber to my eyelids,
:5. before I find a place for YHWH,
:a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob."
:6. Look! We heard about it in Ephrathah;
:we found it in the fields of Jaar:
:7. "Let us go to his dwelling place,
:let us bow down toward his footstool!
:8. Set out, YHWH, to your resting place,
:you and your strong ark!
:9. May your priests be clothed with righteousness,
:and may your faithful ones sing for joy!"
:10. For the sake of David, your servant,
:do not rebuff your anointed one.
:11. YHWH swore to David in sincerity; he will not turn back from it:
:"Someone from your offspring, I will place on your throne.
:12. If your descendants keep my covenant and my laws that I will teach them,
:then their descendants will also forever sit on your throne."
:13. For YHWH had chosen Zion;
:he had desired her as his dwelling place:
:14. "This is my resting place forever;
:here I will dwell, because I have desired her.
:15. I will richly bless her provisions;
:her poor people I will satisfy with food.
:16. And her priests I will clothe with salvation,
:and her faithful ones will sing exuberantly for joy.
:17. There I will cause a horn to grow for David;
:I have put in place a lamp for my anointed one.
:18. His enemies I will clothe with shame,
:but his crown will flourish on him."

:[let] your salvation [come to me] according to your promise,
:42. so that I will answer a word to those insulting me,
:because I trust in your words.
:43. And do not take true words out of my mouth at all,

:forever and ever,
:45. so that I will live at ease
:– because I care about your precepts –

:3. May YHWH bless you from Zion
:–the maker of heaven and earth!
+
:1. The song of the ascents. By David.
:Look, how good and how right
:that brothers dwell—even together!
:2. [It is] like the valuable oil on the head,
:flowing down onto the beard, the beard of Aaron;
:which flows down onto the collar of his garments.
:3. [It is] like the dew of Hermon, which flows down onto the hills of Zion.
:For there YHWH has sent the blessing—
:life everlasting.
+
:1. Why are nations in an uproar,
:and [why] do peoples plot emptiness?
:2. [Why] do earthly kings take a stand
:and [why] have rulers conspired together
:against YHWH and against his anointed one?
:3. "Let's tear off their bonds
:and throw their ropes away from us!"
:4. The one enthroned in the heavens laughs.
:The Lord mocks them.
:5. Then he speaks to them in his anger
:and terrifies them in his wrath.
:6. "But I have poured out my king
:on Zion, my holy mountain."
:7. I will tell about the decree;
:YHWH said to me, "You are my son.
:I hereby father you today.
:8. Ask me, and I will make nations your inheritance
:and the ends of the earth your property.
:9. You will crush them with an iron scepter.
:You will smash them like clay pottery."
:10. And now, kings, wise up!
:Accept discipline, earthly rulers!
:11. Serve YHWH with fear
:and rejoice with trembling!
:12. Kiss the son, or else he will become angry and you will perish in your way,
:for his anger quickly ignites.
:Happy are all who take refuge in him!

:5. Your decrees are entirely trustworthy.
:Holiness is fitting for your house,
:YHWH, forever.
+
:1. YHWH, why do you stand at a distance?
:[Why] do you hide your eyes during troubling times?
:2. The wicked pursue the afflicted in pride;
:may they be caught in the plans that they have devised!
:3. For, the wicked has boasted about his soul’s cravings;
:whoever has blessed the one who works for unjust gain has treated YHWH with contempt.
:4. In a way that suits his pride, the wicked does not seek.
:All his plans are, “There is no God.”
:5. His ways persist every time;
:your rulings are far away from him—on high!

:6. He has said to himself, “Throughout all generations,
:in which there is no trouble, I will not be shaken.”
:7. His mouth is full of curses, deceit and oppression;
:hardship and destruction are underneath his tongue.
:8. He sits in villages’ ambush places;
:he murders the innocent in the hiding places;
:his eyes spy for the wretch.
:9. He lurks in the hiding place like a lion in its den;
:he lurks in order to seize the afflicted;
:he seizes the afflicted by drawing his net across.
:10. He stoops, he crouches,
:and the wretches fall by his powerful claws.
:11. He has said to himself, “God has been ignoring;
:he has been hiding his face; he has never noticed.”
:12. Rise up, YHWH!
:Lift up your hand, God!
:Do not ignore the afflicted!
:13. Why has the wicked treated God with contempt?
:He has said to himself, “You will not require a reckoning.”
:14. You have noticed! For you see hardship and grief
:in order to place [them] into your care.
:The wretch leaves [them] with you.
:You have been one who helps the fatherless.
:15. Break the arm of the one who is wicked and evil!
:May it seek its wickedness, but not find it.
:16. YHWH is king forever.
:Nations perished from his land.
:17. You have heard the desires of the afflicted, YHWH;
:you make their hearts confident; you make your ear attentive,
:18. in order to execute justice for the fatherless and the oppressed,
:so that an earthly mortal will never
:terrify again.
